Richard Chow Wing - Army
Richard Wing was a sergeant in the United States Army and became General George C. Marshall’s cook and orderly at Fort Myer, Virginia in 1944. He later accompanied Marshall on his mission to China in 1946 and to the “Big Four” Foreign Ministers Conference in Moscow in 1947.
Richard passed in the Fall 2010.
Ernest Hong Wing - Army
Ernest Wing was a detective, an agent with the 441 CIC, Counter Intelligence Corp. Civilian dress was often his daily uniform, his rank was a sergeant. Because he was sworn to secrecy, he didn’t share many stories with us, his children. We know he was in the Army from 1941 through 1945. Ernest was initially stationed and trained in Australia. He later had assignments in New Guinea, New Hebrides and the Philippines.
He passed in the Spring of 1972.
Dr. Henry Son Luke - Army
Henry Luke was born in Seattle, WA, Chinatown in 1916, the oldest son of Chinese immigrant parents Sam and Chin Luke. From 1933 to 1937, he attended the University of Washington, graduating in Pharmacy. He then attended Northwestern University Medical School in Evanston (Chicago), Illinois, from 1937 to 1942, graduating as a Doctor of Medicine in 1943. He began his term in the US Army Medical Corps in 1943, first at Torney General Hospital in Palm Springs, California, and then the hospital on Adak Island, in the Aleutian Islands, during the World War II Pacific conflict, He was discharged as a Major in 1946. Henry married to Victoria (Meme) Chen in 1942; they have five children, two sons and three daughters. He was licensed in Washington State as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery in 1946. Henry joined the American Legion Cathay Post 186 in Seattle which began in 1947; he was Commander in 1948. Henry’s most satisfying accomplishments during his life were finishing college as a Chinese American, returning from the war safely, providing for his family and being a doctor in Seattle’s Chinatown. Dr. Luke was an active member of the Chinatown Community in Seattle all his life.
